okay well i wanted a sustain pedal for my keyboard, but i dont like buying shit especailly some simple switch that i could prolly build right?... anyway so today i was using a staple remover and it gave me a great idea ...i could build a pedal around that little device... so i just had to figure out what i could used for the main body...of course a nintendo controller ...cuz its cool looking and highly durable and a perfect size. i wish i had pictures of the whole process but i didnt think about that until i finished building it but i will explain..
Materials: nintendo controller staple remover wooden dowel a nail a spring (the kind you find in a clicky pen) 1/4 in. mono cable various screws a drill super glue...or hot glue...or both and a hinge 1. take apart the controller and you are going to want to remove all of the molded plastic bumps and lumps on the inside of it. 2. take your staple remover and find a good spot to place it for a good range of motion. on the bottom half of the controller...drill holes and screw it there. 3. now you have your wooden dowel you are gonna want to make sure it fits between the bottom teeth of the staple remover attach it with something like super glue or whatever...also you want it to be about level with the hieght of the bottom teeth ...give or take a few mm. now drill a hole in the dowel right down the middle of the dowel...large enough for your screw to fit in without friction ...but smaller than the head of course. 4. now you wanna slide that spring around the screw and slide the screw into the dowel...you want to put the dowel in between the bottom teeth of the staple remover. what yoou want to happen is to have the screw floating in the spring so that its not touching the top of the staple remover when the staple remover is open... you dont want it touching any metal when the remover is open but you want it to make contact when the thing is pushed down slightly...you can adust and test as needed. 5. okay take one end of your 1/4in mono cable and cut it and strip the wires.. you will take one of those wires and wrap it around your screw ( prolly the insulated one) and the other wire you will hot glue/solder attach to the metal part of your stapler remover. there you go thats basically the switch 6. drill a hole and screw the top part of your nintendo controller to the top part of of the staple remover...add the hinge to the other end... i added some felt to the bottom and some little feet as the angle was a lil bit shallow...tired of writing now...anyway you get the basic idea its something cool to do and if you have this stuff laying around like i did its free...here are some pics This post has been edited by ÃdämKädmön: Apr 5 2007, 03:44 PM |

hah yes it works very nicely..try it...only thing i would suggest is instead of super glue on the dowel use some epoxy wield because that i suspect that would be the point of failure if it were to fail
