Al washes a car and it takes him 6 minutes. Fred washes the same car, and it takes him 8 minutes. How long will it take if they both wash the car together?

3 minutes and 30 seconds
actually thats wrong. That question is quite difficult to work out
if the car is divided into 24 parts after 3 minutes and 26 seconds the cars last part (a 24th) is 99.6666667% washed. the 8 min guy washes 5% of each "part" each second and the 6 min guy washes 6.666667% of each "part" per second.
the first calculation is wrong because thats iof they wash half the car each but they won't be doing that will they because the 6 min guy will finish his side first and they go onto the other guys side.
the 8 min guy cleans 0.208% per second and the 6 min guy cleans 0.277% per second
i could have done that all wrong though. haven't touched this kind of maths since i was 16.
there's prboably some kind of formula but i didn't use one, i jsut used my bizarre calculations methods.

thats when they'll have two cars done and even then thats not accurate.
unless i've took this to the huge level of accuracy thats not needed
or wrong ofcourse... but i don't think i am.... hmm

Takes them 30 because they both decide to go to a carwash and pay the 7 bucks.

I am. I am however dyslexic and don't spend that extra time on a website checking my grammar like i do in real life. Thanks though, I'll remember to add spelling mistakes in my bible of what makes a person not clever.
I notice you didn't attempt the question by the way.
ps. Who told you there was no answer JW?

i got 3 point something, or 24/7 as a fraction. It will be around 3.4 (certainly below 3.5) minutes. i have no calculator so i cant sy for sure.
in 24 minutes, they will clean 7 cars (fred 4 and the other 3),so i divide by seven. This accounts for the extra clening fred does. All you have to do is find the lowest common multiple and its pretty straightforard from there.
