bored, read this book today: http://www.amazon.com/How-Think-Like-Leona...i/dp/0440508274

Pretty good, basic advice but inspiring. Like you should keep a journal(I do), helps put thoughts out there. Easy book to knock out, check it out if ur library has it.

* Curiosita: An insatiably curious approach to life and an unrelenting quest for continuous learning. A child-like sense of wonder! Gelb says “He (Leonardo da Vinci) wouldn’t take ‘Yes’ for an answer.”
* Am I asking the right questions?

* Dimonstratzione: A commitment to test knowledge through experience, persistence, and a willingness to learn from mistakes.
* How can I improve my ability to learn from my mistakes and experiences? How can I develop my independence of thought?

* Sensazione: The continual refinement of the senses, especially sight, as the means to enliven experience.
* What is my plan for sharpening my senses as I age?

* Sfumato: A willingness to embrace ambiguity, paradox, and uncertainty.
* How can I strengthen my ability to hold creative tension to embrace the major paradoxes of life?

* Arte/Scienza: The development of the balance between science and art, logic and imagination. "Whole-brain” thinking.
* Am I balancing art and science at home and at work?

* Corporalita: The cultivation of grace, ambidexterity, fitness, and poise.
* How can I nurture the balance of body and mind?

* Connessione: A recognition of, and appreciation for the interconnectedness of all things and phenomena. Systems thinking. It ties everything together.
* How do all the above elements fit together? How does everything connect to everything else?

Diet/Health although not a prerequisite for genius accounts for more than ppl realize.

Funny, I picked this off the shelf and re-read it while I was home for post-Christmas. There's some good exercises, I've been working on my ambidexterous writing again. It should come easy for me, I was originally left-handed but, uh....long story.

True, but many geniuses/savants were completely wacked out people that didn't sleep, eat or do anything normal. I am not disagreeing that your diet affects your brains ability to function, but intelligence is inherited to a certain degree also. You can't put a moron on a good diet make them all of a sudden very intelligent.

Ya man I agree, and to a degree much of your intellectual ability is determined before you have the capacity to control it. Parents are so important and I feel today ppl dont pay attention or nurture intelligence. Doesnt hurt to be healthy and I think now, at least in America where obesity is at a all time high it should be emphasized over and over. Like tooth decay and just simply brushing your teeth controls more than ppl realize, water intake, etc... but Im sure u know what Im saying.

Also depends on how you define intelligence as I a firm believer in multiple intelligences.

You're totally right...especially in childhood and adolescence until the brain finishes development...which honestly is not a well understood process, but for sure new neurons are forming and you are developing new connections in your brain up until adulthood. So...yeah, diet and health as a kid, meaning parenting basically, will have an impact on reaching the 'potential' of one's genetics.

The multiple intelligences notion is also accurate as well I think, point well made.

While some of the biographical background and quotations are interesting, the main body of this book offers some absolutely silly suggestions for emulating the thought process of Leonardo. If he were to read this I'm sure that he and his compatriots would have a good laugh. When I reached the "exercises" I was reminded of some of the infomercials that dominate late night TV. I would not be at all surprised to see Gelb hawking his audio tapes soon. A waste of time. Anyone sincerely interested in learning about Leonardo would do well to look elsewhere.

It's what you make out of it...
That person seems narrow to me, for the price it's well worth it.

I don't feel like wasting money
PolyNapse
If you call 6 or 7 bucks on a book a waste of money...then sure.
Soltron
If it's bullshit, then yeah
PolyNapse
^
How do you know it's bullshit unless you check it out.
If your expecting the book to make you think like Leonardo Da Vinci, then yeah, it's bullshit. But it's brainfood either way...why don't you just go to the bookstore and flip through it, and make a decision yourself?
Soltron
the bookstore is too far away sleep.gif
