how do i not suck?

Because it's trying to mold you to be the same as everyone else. So, by sucking at school you're being an individual.

Education is great for everybody....school is not.

Take up a trade.
Start a business.
Create some art.
Marry a woman/man who can support you and start a family.

You have a lot of options.
You could fail.

But school is anything but a guarantee for success.

It's just as easy to fail at school, and it doesn't make you any dumber or lazier than somebody who makes it work for them.

It's just not for some people.

I had great success in classes like psychology, philosophy, history etc.
Passed with flying colors.

But I could never get through an English, biology, math class etc.
Not because I was lazy or because I didn't understand it, but because it was all a review of my previous schooling and I didn't have an ounce patience for any of it.
I'd start out the class slacking off because there was such a lack of challenge and eventually I'd fall so far behind in the assignments that I'd just drop the class.

I actually have a really good GPA and aren't too far from getting my GE, but I have no interest in completing my general ed requirements.

Plus even if I transferred to a university what the fuck would I major in?
I have no interest in any of the degrees that could actually make me some money, and all of the degrees I do have an interest in are useless for people who don't want to be teachers or broke (like there is a difference).

Personally I'm much happier being a laborer than a student and I've found much more success.

I come from a pretty well off family.
All of my uncles are executives for major corporations and have computer science degrees.
If I were to get a major in business and a minor in computer science I'd have a guaranteed job at Visa or HP, but it just doesn't interest me.

My dad is a laborer and I think I want the same.
Less pressure, you get exercise, decent money depending on the company, and countless opportunity's to move up in the company without schooling.

bers is pretty much on point....

you can work hard your life and get by and like what you do... or you can talk to 95% of the laborers about how they wish they had a better job... but thats near the mid way point of their careers/lives...

school isn't for everyone, but specialize in something that you don't mind and just work hard... good things will come, only you know ur capacity and if you're being honest in your efforts.....

yes, a good work ethic and a proper mind state will get you twice as far as a degree

Decide whether or not school is for you.
If you do decide to stay in school, here are a couple of tips I can offer you:
1. Discover the method of learning that works best for you, i.e auditory, hands on, visual, etc.
http://canibuscentral.ihiphop.com/forum/in...showtopic=55198

2. Make use of teachers, tutors, and T.A.'s -that's what they are there for. If there is a concept you don't understand, ask a classmate, tutor, or your teacher for help.

3. Make use of classtime. Listen actively to the lectures, take notes... try different techniques. Then when you go back home to study later, you'll have something to refer to.

4. Explore your resources. If the textbook you have for a particular subject is confusing, try reading a different text covering the same subject.

5. Do practice questions. This will prepare you for exam time. There are alot of question banks on plenty of subjects, which can be found in libraries or online, sometimes even in your books. Or, make up your own questions. I do this alot, and on a few occassions I saw nearly identical questions on my exams.

6. Consider group studying. I never do, but I know it works for a lot of people. This way you can share ideas, and help each other understand things and clarify any doubts.

7. Get into good study habits. This is important- try to study around the same time every night (this will help you retain more). Study in a relaxed environment with good lighting, and take breaks when you need them. There's no sense in studying for hours at a time without breaking- you can get burned out.

8. Give yourself a few days before an exam to review what's being tested. This way if you have any questions, you can get them cleared up ahead of time. Also, you won't have to worry about cramming the night before.

I hope this helps. Good luck no matter what you decide to do!!
