Full Version: What school really is

School is a failed experiment in preparing young people for the adult world. All high schools in the country were built around 1960 and were designed to hold about half as many students as they currently do. Nothing seems to work quite right in a high school building. The heaters only work during the summer and the air conditioning only works in the winter. The asbestos insulation has all fagged out and the building becomes an oven or a meat locker, depending on the time of year. The plumbing is usually a disaster in high school, with drinking fountains never working but toilets that never stop running.

Schools are usually poorly run by a team of out of touch assholes, also known as Principals, counselor, teachers, and ex-Marine drill sergeants (gym teachers). These people seem hell bent on destroying all hope for students through tedious testing, poorly planned projects, educational videos made during the Truman Administration, and text books that mention the Soviet Union on every page.

High school is also the place where the stress of growing up and the stress of fitting in join forces to destroy even the strongest among us. Most of school is not spent learning but involves trying to find friends who aren't complete douche bags, trying hook up with people of the opposite sex unsuccessfully, combing your hair, buying cloths in the effort that someone will notice you, working out so you will not get your ass kicked everyday, trying desperately to get rid of the zits that have taken over your face, driving a car that a homeless person wouldn't piss in or riding on an over crowed bus while choking on diesel fumes, while people you don't know make fun of you worse then your friends do, and on top of all of that, you must act like nothing is wrong in your life.

Lol. I have a strong suspicion that you are either a teenager yourself, or WAS not too long ago and had a bad high school experience. Either way, I can't help but agree buddy.

The problem with school (especially high school) is:

School isn't for everyone, but everyone has to go to school.

And of course, the fact that our whole system is built around school's 'education'.

Yeah, that's true. In middle school, I had what we'll call an "unpopular girlfriend", and it kinda sunk my popularity level to the point where I was disliking school. I still had a lot of friends, but had a lot of haters for the first time in my life. I broke up with her before high school, ready for a new start. Well, people soon forgot all about the shit in middle school, and my popularity went back up again. In around 10th grade I became one of the most popular guys in my grade, and it made school more fun than it had ever been in my life at that point. I used to always think popularity was overrated, and still do, but there was no denying that it made quite a big difference in my happiness during school. It's just a different reality the "popular" kids live in in school, compared to the unpopular ones, and it's sad.

Looking back, I think it's absolutely pathetic that popularity actually meant ANYTHING in highschool, and the fact that it was placed at such importance makes me sick. But it's just the way being a teenager is, there's no changing it. I was still very different from all the other popular people, and NEVER did things I normally wouldn't do or act differently to get "cooler" friends, but the "cooler" friends I was friends with did exactly that sometimes, and I looked down on them inside.

Overall, high school is pathetic. I didn't even TOUCH upon the curriculum and the way it's all structured and everything, because that would take forever. But yeah, high school is sickening, but there's no denying that it's a much better place when you're friends with the right people, sadly.

I actually preferred school in my unpopular days, than my popular i gotta say. I started off highschool on top cuz i was captain of the volleyball team, and thats first season of the school year. i never really thought about it too much though because volleyball was all i did. then after that i kinda realized that i hated the people who were putting me on top and i kinda started to just sit to myself and study on spares instead of bullshitting with the losers i used to. I just started hangin out with people who were actually nice, and started concentrating on what i came to school to do, which is learn.

ot me it seemed like they focused more on trying to get you in trouble or discipline you like detention, suspension for being a few mintues late or not turning in HW that will do no use in yrs from that moment. Too many ppl try to hard to act think they are cool go to parties all the time i never let that influence me, they did that or still do that because everyone does whatever it is they are doing.
