Now that's what I don't care for- power points. I've had several profs over the past couple of semesters literally read the power points to us verbatim. What a waste of everyone's time. Then again I have a prof who makes it through, at most, 4 or 5 slides and winds up talking or sharing personal stories the whole time. Not saying that's any better, but at least they are trying to keep our attention instead of reading to us.
The best profs I've had are the ones that don't use any power point slides, and barely use the book. They know their stuff so well, they can get up and write out notes from memory and explain everything to us without some sort of guide to refer to. These are the classes I do the best in, too.
That reminds me of what happened last year in my Communication Technology and Social Change class. For that class we had to give a group presentation on an emerging form of technology; E-Bussiness, File-Sharing, Video games, Open Source etc. All the presentations were annoying because all of the groups except ours relied on youtube, and every person from the groups did nothing more than read the slides of the powerpoint Verbatim. Luckily I had a tecnology nerd for my group and he could speak on what the topic was without being overly dependent on the slides.
The last presentation was hysterical because the last group topic was on video games and the same guy who was in my group criticized the fuck out of this group while they were giving their presentation. "NO actually thats wrong," "No actually the reason why.." It was funny because they just read of the slides and didnt really try to understand the information let alone try to debate him. I kind of felt bad though but still though the presentations but most of the class to sleep they failed to engage the rest of the class.
