Everytime I read or hear anything about education in the news it seems as if they are also trying to get kids into math and science. In fact some high schools are trying to incentivize teachers to teach them by offering them high salaries. Do you think Math and Science is more important than other subjects like English and Social Studies?

That's a good question. Are math and science more important than English and social studies? I'm going to say no. More relevant? In some cases yes. I think being educated in all of these subjects is going to benefit someone more-so than just 2 of the 4, regardless of which 2 those are.

I agree with you. A science/math person would still need English to help be able to relay, read, and write information. Social Studies could help give insights into our pass, present, and maybe future situations. Just make sure you research on your own what is taught. "His story"...... feel me?

I hate to say it but some people will judge you less intelligent than you are, because of some small English rule.

I am a 29 yr old student, and I'm having a hard time cleaning up my spoken grammer. It is very hard because I've spoke using slang all my life. It sucks when your debating with someone and they get frustrated and attack your grammer.

This is a very important question. I think our educational system should also incorporate more 'wisdom' into the curriculum. Discuss some of the aspects of life that give you insight in how you can be as a person.

Also, I was reading about 'liberal arts' the other day on wikipedia.

QUOTE
The term liberal arts denotes a curriculum that imparts general knowledge and develops the student’s rational thought and intellectual capabilities[vague], unlike the professional, vocational, technical curricula emphasizing specialization.

I thought that was a nice way of putting it.

definatly geometry and when iwas in school at ndscs we had a practical welders math book that was the thing also fractions, decimals and a very good calculator where you just plug in formula and get your answer

english/other subjects are important, no doubt, but i have to side more with mathematics/science in terms of what is more important. english doesn't progress our technology/survival, but science/mathematics do. english is more complementary than anything.

Specialization Is For Insects

Man...I get so tired of having to babysit all the New Useless Bastards that get to my work section because their parents held their hand for 18 years. Lazy worthless fucks! I'll fucking strip naked and run through a pit of tigers the day they start teaching common sense in schools...

Oh yeah...I think math and science are more important...math is the language of the universe! Science is the study of life.

^nice one.

It depends what kind of English you are talking about. Basic grammar school English is necessary but English literature is a garbage class. Science and math are WAY more important than that.

Yo, I've gotta add this real quick...

I was at a restaurant with my wife the other day, and I overheard some chowderhead talking about math and science. So I listen closer and he says "I don't see how people can be good at science. I mean math, yeah, I can see how people can be good at math, but not science". Then he went on to dribble some more ignorant, unintelligible shit, pay his tab, and get the fuck outta there. Meanwhile I'm on the verge of jumping up and calling this guy a retard.

What I gather is he was talking about the difference between solving equations and recalling facts. A person can be good at applying formulas on a consistent basis and overcoming slight changes or differences in the equation, as opposed to simple recollection where the facts remain the same? I'm guessing that he meant it takes skill to be good at using formulas and methods (doing math) rather than memorization (remembering scientific facts). But that's nonsense in itself. I'd like to see him memorize 5,000 bars for one song. That turd probably gets hung up doing long division. Of course, this is all speculation on my part... Still, thought it was relevant to this topic... Chowderhead!

I guess they advertise for math and science this much because there's a need for people educated in that direction right?

so it's not like they think those subjects are more important, but in this situation there's probably a shortage of people educated in math and science so they're trying to get more people to do it...

I personally think that they're all important, for one person it's not necessary to be good at all 4, I mean, with math and english or something you can be a really good math teacher but to make a good society there are people needed who have studied maths, and people who have studied, but also people who have studied english or something like that right?

^ Good point.

The rocket ship was big and blue. The rocketship could travel to space in 2 seconds.

DONE and done.

you... described it....

regardless, our society can survive with basic english,
but basic math would not be sufficient

Doesn't something have to exist for you to describe it. Did I create it in a physical forum, no. I hope you get what I am trying to articulate.
Are we arguing over language it's self or knowing a specific language well.
