ever since listening to Canibus every other emcee seems pretty whack to me and no one else can hype me up. i havent heard a grittier voice, such complex ideas with complex rhyme schemes that portray a point so accurately...it just hypes me up and i dont feel that way listening to other people anymore. All of my workout playlist is filled with Canibus, and the other songs by other people that used to hype me up just annoy me now and i wonder what i found so interesting in them.
so i'd like to take this time out to say fuck you bis.....for making other rappers unlistenable to me

Only being able to listen to Canibus? wow that sounds you've found a little bit of hell on earth. Having a closed mind like that sounds like suck. Hip Hop doesn't make it on my work out playlist sometimes. Some days it's all Hip Hop. Some days it's all Canibus. Try and break out that box, home slice.
Here, listen to Gilmours guitar solo at the end of this version of Comfortably Numb and try and become human again.

All I know about pink floyd is that they love em out in Iran.
I think people just like the fact bis has a unique style which is highly creative and hard to reproduce. I don't think all who listen to Hip Hop would label Canibus as the pinnacle of Hip Hop, probably those who listen to Eminem can't listen to any other MC on a serious level because of his style, the same could be said of others who are at the prime of Hip Hop.
Its good to have an open mind, however, if one knows themselves well and what they are looking for musically, they tend to stick to that genre or artist. I personally enjoy a lot of electronic music, a lot of jazzy music, even some soppy songs as well as classical and many other genres, however, nothing will ever compare to Hip Hop and in my own personal time its hard to listen to anything but Hip Hop, not just Canibus.
I think the fact that Canibus sticks to the core of Hip Hop, that being lyricism, those who have a natural affiliation to Hip Hop and the energy which is Hip Hop find it difficult to find other artists with the same passion and honour on the mic. This is because of the economical nature of the beast which is Hip Hop today, nowadays its better to have reputation than honour, because reputation gets you $. Therefore we get a lot more people in Hip Hop talking about nothing, not really putting time into their art but instead into promotion. We are slowly getting back to a time where reputation doesn't get you $, so that strive will cause a shift back to MC's having to have honour, because there is no easy way anymore. This will mean more Creativity for Hip Hop and a surge to bring back some balance, only time will tell if its enough.
Point being, give it a few years and who knows, there may be an Army of MC's who have comparable skills on the MIC, but it won't be easy and they'll have to go through hell and back!
Peace,

haha he's definitely raised the bar; cuz think about it:
before bis, it wasn't cool to be intelligent in hip hop; most rappers who were intelligent kinda disguised it in ways a wider audience could understand. not canibus, he took hip hop to another level intellectually in my opinion.
others who kinda set the stage for Bis were Ra, Chino, Ras Kass, and Pharoahe Monch.
its kinda hard to listen to sumthin like Channel Zero and then try to be impressed by Drake or Kanye.

i dont have a closed mind at all bro, i listen to a variety of music from trance to classical and hip hop that i play on the piano...u can check me out
when it comes to hip hop though, i havent really listened to a variety of underground artists thoroughly besides bone thugs before i found out about Canibus. I prob would be more favorable towards other artists if i listened to them before being exposed to such dope shit, but since he is basically what i stumbled upon when i first got serious into it, it probably makes that much of a difference.
im not saying that other artists SUCK, its just that they dont stimulate me as much. its like losing your virginity to a woman who is an 11 on a scale of ten then moving down to a 3-4.......its not the same is it? woulda been different if you lost it on the uglier chick and it wouldve seemed special, but def. not after bangin the hotter one.

I'm in the same boat as well. I was listening to BTNH when they first came out, but I wasn't a huge hip-hop fan until I heard a Canibus snippet on a bootleg mix tape. On a cassette no less! Anyways, those rhymes blew my mind and I was a fan since.
But now I listen to everything. I know Canibus is the best and I have my other favs like Immortal Tech, JMT, Nas, and Lupe, but I still can listen to Drake, Jay-Z, and Lil Wayne. It's funny- I moved to Wyoming after being on the east coast my whole life, and now I really miss the shitty rap on the radio. You think radio rap stations suck? Try living in a place where the ONLY rap you will hear is on a top 40 station. And you know they are bumping E-40 all day! *sarcasm* So yea, I've gotten into Drake, and Lil Wayne annoys me less. But I'm kinda stuck.
Besides, It's just like watching tv. I just turn off my thought process when listening to some rappers. If you listen to Canibus, you have to let the info absorb, or you will miss the subtleties that are in his punchlines. I don't think people want to put that much in, or they aren't used to it.

and thats whats hot right now is mind numbing in a bad way soulless hip hop!!!!!! I fell the same way when it comes to hip hop. Bis and a few other artist really do embody what in my opinion real hip hop is. this other crap is just a dissgrace to the art form. Another good artist which blows my mind is K-RINO, because i have always associated southern rappers as that "Right Therrr" crap. K-Rino is a lyrical MONSTER on the mic. So there is others out there, you just have to search really really hard to find them. unfortunately, you have to come to terms with the fact that bis is sickkkkkkk and finding as potent of hip hop is few and far between!!!!!!! once you get over that, well u kinda get numb to the crap, or do what i do and dont listen to the radio and wait for surgically implanted ipod to be the norm!!!!!! hahahahaha.

I got the same syndrome. I listen to a lot of other genres, but when it comes to rap I can only put on Bis, recently the new mixes and C of Tranquility freebies. I can also tolerate K-Rino so I would definately say he's my #2 fav but I can't imagine a better MC than Bis. I listen to mainly African, South American and other world music then also go back and get blown away by some new Bis mix that brings back my symptoms of Canibitus.
fuck you canibus! Quit making such premium shit...

fuck this thread is brilliant I felt this way for so long now, the bar has been raised to high by bis, that everybody else jus sucks plain & simple.
of course I still fuck wit Wu clan members, jmt, mf doom, immortal tech, some underground cats, on a regular, but other than that theres no one else big in the game that I even think is listenable. I jus cant listen to 50, kayne, jay, cuz it seems like they rapping just for a check or for commercialized fame. Other than that & bis I just listen to ol ish, pre 96 stuff.
What makes bis so much better and listenable than others in the game, is he has the passion for hip hop that others jus dont seem to have anymore. His passion is still like hes in the golden era rockin for pun, pac, & big L. While others go Out of their way to follow trends, trying to stay commercial, selling out their dignity for a dollar, or going on power trips so others dont get any shine, bis keeps it original creating new flows, concepts, rhymes, the way its supposed to be, and staying positive and working with any & everyone towards the betterment of hip hop.
Canibus jus represents everything that true emcees others have forgotten. Dude is jus too nice on the mic, thats why they had to ban him. As long as hes around these other wack emcees, nas, jay, drake, ect, they cant eat on rap music. Bis will bodybag all dem niggas for dolo and they know that. Normally wit a nigga as ill as bis, they would jus lockin him up or killin him off, but instead they had to ban bis so they could still compare wack emcees who been fell off, like em & ll, to him, to build them up & and make it look like those wack emcees actually got some skills when in reality theyre wack as fuck making real hip hop music and cant even step in the same cypher as bis

^yo at that moment hip hop knew this kid Canibus was the greatest lyricist to ever do it and a major problem in the industry
Every line canibus has ever spit has been carefully thought out, written with extreme thoughtfulness, and crafted with perfect precision. The illest alive hands down

I feel you, but sometimes you gotta switch it up.
It's just like being bilingual. Knowing something else keeps you versatile. I'm not saying keep that wack shit on constant rotation, but at least when someone asks you about a song, you'll have a honest opinion about it.

Well that's kinda like my situation with Drake. My friend told me to listen to it, and I didn't at first. he had ties with Wayne... that cant be good. But being bored one day I did a quick d/l and listened to it. Not a bad as I thought. I think he might go the route of Cassidy... he should have put out more street tracks instead of all fluff. But now i think its too little too late and he's gonna get typecast.
Point is, I took a chance. Yea I might have wasted a few hours listening to artist that I don't care for. But now I have something else to compare to. Like Atmosphere- don't like em. All my friends do. But I have the whole collection and there's about 15 songs that I do like. So I keep those in my lineup. Just don't limit yourself...

Nobody and I mean nobody is even close to Bis. Period!!! They might say I'm on his dick but saying so modestly I think I'm a fairly intelligent man and this is damn intellectual and spiritual. PLI is a magnum opus and Im glad there are those of us who prefer mental stimulation and enlightenment rather than just simple redundant entertainment. If you listen Bis is never exactly the same on his songs and others just hear big words and what they would consider to be endless bragging but he is dropping so many jewels its not even funny anymore. If you have the mental toughness to at least listen ( I havent even gotten into looking everything up yet) then you can really elevate yourself with something more than just smart things to say to impress people. I cant even share this with those around me because its pointless. I say Bis is the best and like my personal belief in God these truths I hold to be self-evident and need no validation from external sources at all. I love learning and all I have to do is run a 3 hr Bis playlist and school's in session. That's how I feel about it on the level that I'm on and I will no longer argue with fools or people who just have a different opinion because on this matter I cannot be swayed at all. Can't wait 4 RTJ II
